Washington, D.C. - Log Cabin Republicans has pledged to formally support H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, proposed by Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) and under consideration for a full vote later today.

"I'm grateful to Log Cabin Republicans for supporting our 21st Century Cures effort that seeks to capture just a sliver of the hope and optimism that countless patients exude despite sometimes insurmountable odds," Congressman Upton, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce said. "While the history of health innovation is remarkable - we've now got our sights set on the future, on 21st Century Cures. This bill is about making sure our laws, regulations, and resources keep pace with scientific advances. In this, the greatest country in the world, Americans deserve a system second to none. We can and must do better. The time for 21st Century Cures is now."

"This common-sense conservative legislation is an example of government working right: incentivizing innovation with the goal of finding cures to major diseases such as HIV and AIDS that could save billions, even trillions of dollars in the long-term," Log Cabin Republicans National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo added. "The 21st Century Cures Act streamlines the medical innovation process without raising taxes. For groups working on issues of gay health specifically, this bill could be a game-changer. Log Cabin Republicans thanks Congressman Upton for championing this bill, and urges its passage in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives."

Log Cabin Republicans urges our members across the country to call and email their Congressmember and ask them to vote YES on this bill and to vote NO on any amendments which would alter the bill as-written.
