Log Cabin Republicans Support Passage of ENDA

(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans call for the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) which would extend federal workplace discrimination protections that are currently provided based on race, religion, gender, national origin, age and disability to include sexual orientation and gender identity.

"Americans know that advancing employees by merit is what wins for business. Passing ENDA will take discrimination off the table, and ensure that the best of the best are hired, promoted and retained in their jobs. It is not surprising that polls show large majorities supporting the protections contained in this legislation. Discrimination should have no place in our workforce, and where it exists, it undermines American productivity, innovation, and our ability to compete," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "ENDA is commonsense legislation that is carefully crafted to respect the freedom of religious institutions while providing critical protections to people who studies show are often locked out of jobs just because of who they are. Log Cabin Republicans are proud to have strong allies, like Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL), already in support of this important legislation, and we are committed to seeing ENDA pass with strong Republican support. It is time to pass this bill so that all Americans can get back to work."

"I am proud to once again cosponsor the Employment Non-Discrimination Act," said Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL), who serves as the lead Republican on ENDA. "This legislation is not about giving individuals special rights. It simply ensures that every individual is treated equally, with fairness and that employers judge them based on their talents and merits, not on their sexual orientation. During these tough economic times, we need our best and brightest helping lead our private sector. ENDA goes to the heart of what America is about: Equality and opportunity for all."
