(Washington, DC) – "Log Cabin Republicans thank Sandra Day O'Connor for her distinguished service to our nation as a Justice on the United States Supreme Court since 1981," said Patrick Guerriero, President of Log Cabin Republicans.

History will record that it was President Ronald Reagan, a Republican, who nominated Sandra Day O?Connor as the nation's first female Justice of the Supreme Court.

Log Cabin recognizes Justice O'Connor for her tremendous record of accomplishment on the bench and for her commitment to safeguarding individual liberty. In particular, Justice O'Connor will be remembered for her principled decision in the Lawrence v Texas case, which confirmed that the principle of individual liberty extended to gay and lesbian families.

"We call on President Bush to nominate, and for the Senate to confirm, a jurist, who like Justice O'Connor, recognizes the constitutional safeguards of individual liberty for all citizens," concluded Guerriero.
