(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin applauds President Bush for signing the Ryan White CARE Act Reauthorization. "We thank President Bush for keeping pressure on Congress to pass this critical legislation," said Log Cabin Republicans President Patrick Sammon. "This was a long process. We're glad all sides were finally able to enact this legislation."

The bill had been held up for weeks by four Democrat senators over changes to the program that were developed as part of a lengthy bi-partisan process. Earlier this month, lawmakers reached a compromise. "This bill is the first step in a long process to make sure the CARE Act appropriately reflects the changing face and nature of HIV/AIDS in the United States," said Sammon.

The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act is the principle federally funded HIV/AIDS program that provides assistance to low-income Americans.
