Georgia Log Cabin Secretary Responsibilities

Attention All Georgia Log Cabin Members: Ever wanted to help shape the future of our chapter?

We have an exciting opportunity for anyone who is a paid member, no matter when they joined! Our current secretary recently relocated & is no longer able to serve on our board. We very much thank Greg Emmerth for his service & wish him the very best.

We invite anyone & everyone who wishes to join the Georgia Log Cabin Republicans board of directors in the capacity of secretary for the rest of 2025 to submit their name to galcr2025@gmail.com no later than midnight on the evening of Thursday, June 12th. If you wish to nominate another member, please cc: them on the nomination e-mail so that they are aware.

Membership will have the opportunity to hear from all candidates, ask questions & vote during our membership meeting on Saturday, June 14th. Nominations on the day of the election will be considered, though for administrative purposes we prefer to know who will be running ahead of time.

The duties of chapter secretary are mainly minutes notetaking during board meetings, helping with administrative functions like chapter elections & ensuring that proper paperwork is filed with the state annually (essentially just a couple of forms). The secretary is expected to attend monthly board meetings & contribute strategically alongside all board members. Board meetings are typically held in the metro Atlanta area on a Thursday evening for about an hour. Attendance in person is strongly encouraged, but remote joining options are available as well.

Per Georgia Log Cabin's bylaws, the secretary is officially responsible for the following:

1.     Serve formally as the "Secretary" for any filing purposes (including but not limited to the IRS & state of Georgia registrations),

2.     Propose rules for conducting meetings,

3.     Support the proper conduct of meetings,

4.     Maintain records of meetings (e.g. basic minutes),

5.     Maintain & execute necessary filings or other administrative work.

The secretary's name will be published on the Georgia Log Cabin Republicans website along with the names of other board members. As we are a member-supported volunteer 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, this position does not come with any tangible benefits or salary - other than the privilege of serving your fellow members making a difference in our state, of course!

If you have any questions or concerns, please email galcr2025@gmail.com & a board member will reply.
