With Republican Support, it's Time for Marriage Equality in Maryland and New Jersey

(Washington, DC) - After the recent bipartisan successes in New York and Washington, the legislatures in Maryland and New Jersey are rightfully set to pass full civil marriage, freedoms that should be signed into law.

"Republicans across the country are stepping forward to support the freedom to marry based upon the fundamental tenets of individual liberty. Log Cabin Republicans are proud of the role of elected Republicans, who by supporting equality are helping put our party back on the right side of history," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "Leaders like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie should take note that the freedom to marry is a conservative value and sign this legislation. These are not easy votes. Many of the Republicans who are supporting us today in Maryland, New Jersey and Washington represent conservative districts, and it is vital that our community reward their political courage. Those who would deny our freedom would like nothing more than to punish elected Republicans like Senator Jennifer Beck (NJ), Delegate Wade Kach (MD), Senator Allan Kittleman (MD), and Representative Maureen Walsh (WA). To preserve these important gains in the states and build a more inclusive national GOP, we need to stand by our allies as they stand up for us."
